Ballarat Health Services spent over 2 years preparing the business case for implementing a document conversion process which would endow the hospital with a digital medical record.

Armed with a thorough appreciation of systems available to them, the project board selected BOSSnet due to the comprehensiveness of the module and the added functionality provided by integrating with the BOSSnet Clinical Information System.Staff at the hospital will have access to a fully indexed electronic replica of a patient's entire historical medical record as conventionally kept by the hospital as a paper file.

Access will be protected by secure username and password, and made possible from any networked workstation throughout the hospital. 

Additional to DMR features, staff will have access to BOSSnet functionality of:

• patient lists
• electronic results review
• electronic DVT/ PE risk assessment
• electronic clinical handover
• electronic patient discharge summaries
• e-forms (as a precursor to total EHR implementation)
